Objectives:

The primary objective of the FORFI initiative is to expand and improve the knowledge base for research and innovation policy as well as to provide an arena for learning and dialogue between researchers and policymakers. This objective is divided into two parts, with associated secondary objectives.

To expand and improve the knowledge base for research and innovation policy:

  • To conduct research of high relevance to policy development and of a high international standard.
  • To strengthen theory and methodology within this field to ensure the further development of the research field as a whole.
  • To promote comparative studies, preferably with a Nordic perspective.
  • To promote cooperation across subject fields, disciplines and research traditions.
  • To enhance international cooperation.

To provide an arena for learning and dialogue between policymakers and researchers:

  • To create arenas for learning and dialogue between policymakers and researchers with focus on various research and innovation policy issues, in both the short and the long term.
  • To facilitate dialogue between users and researchers in the grant application and assessment process.
  • To encourage dialogue between users and researchers regarding the follow-up of projects that are selected for funding.

This programme/activity normally accepts grant applications from:

• Research groups and cosultants with relevant expertise.
• Universities, university colleges, independent research institutes and associated organisations.

2010-2014

Overall budget:

Nearly NOK 50 million.
