The focus of the CLIMIT programme is on technology related to carbon capture and storage (CCS). The programme is administered jointly by the Research Council and Gassnova, and is targeted towards research, development and demonstration of CCS technology.

The objective of the programme is to accelerate the commercialisation of CCS by providing financial support for research, development and demonstration.

This includes activities addressing:

  • CO2 capture before, during or after power production, and CO2 capture from industrial processes;
  • Compression of CO2;
  • Transport of CO2;
  • Long-term storage of CO2 and other areas of application.

The programme provides funding for activities within all phases of development and commercialisation of new solutions.

Nine European countries are joining forces and making funds available for research and innovation actions related to CO2 Capture and Storage (CCS). The initiative is called ACT – Accellering CCS Technologies.

The ambition of ACT is to facilitate the emergence of CCS via transnational funding aimed at accelerating and maturing CCS technology through targeted innovation and research activities.

The following countries participate in ACT: Norway (coordinator), Germany, Greece, the Netherlands, Romania, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey and the United Kingdom.

The national funding agencies participating in ACT are supported by funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme.

Further information can be found on the ACT web-site
