Norwegian educational research faces challenges related to scientific merit, multidisciplinarity and relevance for practice and policy. The Programme for Educational Research (UTDANNING2020) seeks to address these challenges in a variety of ways. The purpose of this seminar is to highlight some of the key challenges for the research field.

Lectures and follow-up comments
The seminar will present three keynote lectures:

• Professor Richard Shavelson of Stanford University will discuss the special challenges related to scientific merit and methodology.
• Professor Dominique Foray of Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne will look at knowledge management and knowledge accumulation in educational research and compare these with knowledge production in other research areas.
• Professor Sven Erik Nordenbo of Aarhus University will reflect on the place of meta-research vis-à-vis ordinary research.

Researchers with specialised knowledge of the situation in Norway and the Nordic region will present their prepared comments following each lecture. Contributions and debate from the audience are welcome after the lectures and at the end of the seminar.

The seminar is free of charge.
