National Science Week 2012 will showcase the human and social dimension not only in what is commonly termed applied social research but in virtually all fields of research. How is this type of research carried out? What kinds of input do researchers give to politicians and business leaders and public administrators? And are their proposals even followed?
Across the country researchers will be taking their work out to the general public, presenting their research on town squares and streets, in shopping centres, tents, cafes and restaurants, in libraries, on stages and at luncheons.
For the third year in a row young researchers have been invited to compete in the Researcher Grand Prix, an event where the candidates take the stage and are given four minutes to talk about their research. In the finals in Tromsø during National Science Week the researcher best able to communicate his/her research will be crowned the national winner.
For the eighth time the National Science Week is the arena for the Norwegian contributions to the annual joint European event Researchers’ Night, under the auspices of the European Commission. This year several different local events will take place various places in Norway on Friday 28 September.
Almost all of the National Science Week events are free of charge and open to all. For more information about the various event locations, see the festival homepage (partly in English).
