Mot en ny global orden? ("Towards a new world order?") is the title of a research policy conference being organised by the Research Council at Holmen Fjordhotell in Asker on 3-5 June. The conference will focus on global change and the response of the world and Norway to this change. One of the aims of the conference is to identify future research needs and to suggest strategies for meeting the research challenges of 2015 and beyond.

Globe as lightbulb Since November 2007 the Research Council of Norway has organised three workshops whose primary objective has been to identify the knowledge and expertise needed by Norway in 2015 and beyond in light of the challenges associated with globalisation. The need for an increased focus on globalisation processes and on how these affect the research agenda is an important starting point. The understanding of and focus on globalisation is intended to cut across disciplines, thematic areas, divisions and activities and the workshops have therefore taken varying approaches to the topic of globalisation.

The conference is being organised under the auspices of the Research Council's globalisation project, and is being planned with the assistance of Professors Helge Hveem, Karen O'Brien and Jørgen Randers. The professors will also be among the speakers at the conference.
