Food from the sea – Norway’s potential

The potential of and challenges facing Norwegian and international aquaculture are the focus of the upcoming symposium on food from the sea to be hosted by the Norwegian Academy of Science, the Norwegian Academy of Technological Sciences and the Research Council of Norway.

Minister of Fisheries and Coastal Affairs Lisbeth Berg-Hansen will open the symposium, which will discuss the following topics:

  • Value created from productive oceans in 2050. Karl A. Almås, President of SINTEF Fisheries and Aquaculture 
  • Ecological principles and opportunities for food production at sea. Professor Yngvar Olsen, Norwegian University of Science and Technology 
  • The digital salmon: the key to both commercial and social values? Professor Stig Omholt, Norwegian University of Science and Technology
  • Can the blue revolution continue? Growth and innovation in aquaculture-based value chains around the globe. Professor Ragnar Tveterås, University of Stavanger
  • Knowledge as a governance and policy instrument. Liv Monica Stubholt, Senior Vice President for Strategy and Communication at Kværner ASA and chair of the HAV21 strategy committee
