The Research Council of Norway is hosting a research conference on regional innovation and regional innovation policy. The conference will look back at ten years of innovation research conducted under the Programme for Regional R&D and Innovation (VRI), looking at what has been achieved, and discussing the direction research should go next.

This conference marks the conclusion of the ten-year VRI programme. The primary objective of the VRI programme was to generate knowledge about innovation processes in the regions, enhance cooperation on innovation among regional actors and promote research-based innovation in working life. The programme was concluded in December 2016.

The conference will also start the discussion on future topics for research in the field. Which topics are the most interesting and relevant for further research? What do we know the least about, and where is the need for new knowledge most pressing?

Speakers
The conference will feature a number of international speakers. Kevin Morgan, Professor of Governance and Development at Cardiff University is the keynote speaker, and Ron Boschma, Professor of Regional Economics at Utrecht University will give the concluding lecture.
Michaela Trippl of the University of Vienna and Markku Sotarauta of the University of Tampere will serve as session chairs, while Professor Susan Marlow of Nottingham University Business School will also give a lecture.
