Evaluation of the Research Council`s own activities

The Research Council's governing bodies can request that research programmes are evaluated roughly halfway through the programme period. This is particularly important in relation to programmes which administer large sums of money, such as the programmes incorporated under the Large-scale Programme initiative. The aim is to examine whether the programmes are reaching the objectives they have set. Evaluation results form the basis for determining how the research programme should be continued and, where necessary, for making any adjustments to the work programmes.

In their final phase the research programmes are required to draw up a final report. This should give a summary of the findings of the many individual projects, make recommendations for the dissemination and application of the research findings, and provide suggestions as to how the acquired expertise can be maintained.
