Department for Cooperation and Development Research

Director: Bjørn Tore Kjellemo

The Department for Cooperation and Development Research is responsible for research on global development, including poverty, human rights and sustainable development. Important tasks include strengthening the knowledge base in Norway about other countries and regions and addressing globalisation issues. The department is responsible for ensuring that follow-up of Norwegian international relations is incorporated into the Research Council’s agenda.

The department coordinates the Research Council’s bilateral cooperation, with the priority countries USA, Canada, Russia, Japan, China, India, South-Africa, Argentina, Brazil and Chile. Furthermore, the department participates in activities in the European Research Area and is responsible for research cooperation under the EEA Agreement. It is also charged with coordinating the Research Council’s efforts to build research capacity in developing countries.
