Evaluation of Norwegian Geography Research
A Nordic expert panel has conducted an evaluation of Norwegian Geography Research. The Research Council received the panel's report in January 2011.
The panel has reviewed the accomplished research at the Departments of Geography at the universities of Trondheim and Bergen, and the Department of Sociology and Human Geography at the University of Oslo. In addition, the panel has examined the geography research at the universities in Ås, Tromsø and Agder. The expert panel also reviewed research conducted at the University College of Nord-Trøndelag and Agder Research.
The panel examined a selection of 184 articles published in scientific journals by Norwegian geographers, originating from the evaluated institutes and universities, in the period between 2004 and 2008.
The evaluation does not, however, capture the research conducted by a number of geographers employed at other institutions outside the University sector. This is a weakness the panel itself acknowledges.
