Department for Analysis and Research Institute Policy

The Department for Analysis and Research Institute Policy carries out activities relating to the Research Council’s strategic responsibility to develop the independent research institutes as suppliers of research-based knowledge of high calibre and relevance for the use of trade and industry, the public administration and society in general. Activities include input on research policy about and for the sector, including financial framework conditions nationally and within the EU.
The department also has the strategic and administrative responsibility for the basic state funding of independent research institutes and the regional science centres.
The Research Council plays a key role in the strategic development of the university college sector as well. The department provides input on research policy to the sector and relevant ministries relating to strategic focus and framework conditions for R&D activities, cooperation, task-sharing and concentration of academic activities, recruitment, and researcher training.
The department is in charge of expanding the knowledge base for all aspects of the division’s sphere of responsibility. Tasks include portfolio analyses, compilation of statistics and reports, and evaluation and analysis in relation to research policy issues. In addition, the department carries out tasks on behalf of the division relating to budget proposals, budget distribution, reporting and financial management.
